Thor smiles as he watches the television and listens to what G-Dawg has to say in his promo. He nods in agreement to his points. Now he himself did not know the past of G-Dawg nor did he know about some of the things he was talking about. BUT the bulk of the message was simple and one that Thor himself agreed work. It had gotten sickening to watch different versions of the same basic I am better than you stay out my or suffer.
It was amazing that no matter how original most tried to be you boil most promos down to the same simple messages. The message that they were a bad ass and DESERVED to be respected. Thor himself was guilty of it himself even though he avoided coming out and bragging. No he used a subtler method BUT still for all his effort not to use the same over used, over worked message it still showed through a little bit unintentionally.
But well unintentional was a LOT better then over doing it and trying to force the whole bad ass respect me and stay out of my way or else suffer a painful fate message. No Thor himself believed you had to earn your respect in action. That AFTER you had something to back up your claims then you could say something about what you had done. He didn't make claims that he was the best nor did he make claims that he was going to become then man to beat. He knew he had to work for what the respect.
Now this wasn't to say he didn't expect some respect. No he expected to be treated with the respect that any person deserved. The respect and consideration that came from being alive. That was all. He wasn't asking for riches or complete and total respect. Just enough as was considered acceptable in polite company.
He expected that he wouldn't be treated like something left over after a meal and deposited in the toilet. Really was that so much to ask? All he wanted was common courtesy. He treated everybody with respect and well quite frankly appreciated it in return.
Thor gets up and smiles looking over at the camera that had become part of the surroundings and a part of his life when he was in his study. He moves to stand in front of the window and nods as he looks out over the sunlit gardens.
"Now while I am in a VERY important match this week I am not really going to focus on my opponents in this promo. That is because I have already said what I want to say to them. Though there is one last thing. See you in the ring at Side Effect.
No I would rather address another promo I saw this week a promo for another match that is happening this week. It is a promo that well says a lot of things I agree with.
G-Dawg you speak some wisdom when you say that most of the new comers are arrogant nobodies with a severe need to make themselves feel better about themselves by treat people like they are God's gift to the world.
Yet I must point out that quite a few of the folks that are now legends started out with that same arrogant I own the place attitude. Yeah it is usually a phase most unseasoned warriors go through before sense is knocked into them. And to think a wrestler isn't a warrior of sorts is a bit of folly. In this business we bleed and sweat and train to become better. We give our lives to the this. We are as much warriors as any of the warriors of the past.
You G-Dawg are a legend in this business, a legend that I am afraid I need to study up on since I missed the time you spent in ring though I have heard rumors of you past matches but well I need to look back to see if I can find anything on them.
I respect you for the way you are making you return. Some returning wrestlers with your resume would have demanded to come back and be on top with a title or no deal. But you man understand the way this business works. Just as I do. You know you have to fight, bleed and sweet and tears of joy, frustration and despair. To celebrate your wins and learn from you losses. You know know that EVERY ounce of respect MUST be earned not granted just because you say it should be.
You understand how fickle the fans can be. How things aren't a guarantee until the final bell rings. Most of you have learned the lesson ANY wrestler or warrior learns if they plan on surviving or now days have a chance at success. 'Don't under estimate you opponent."
Thor turns his back on the window and moves to sit back down and looks into the camera and nods to himself as he smiles thoughtfully.
"I guess what I am trying to say is that you understand the importance of earning respect. You know what all but a few of the new guys don't, that wrestlers ARE in fact modern day gladiators. That skill and talent are what propel us to the top. Though just like in the gladiator pits of Ancient Rome the public opinion is very much a factor of our lives.
Now while a low public reaction won't cause us to be sentenced a literal death we do die in a sense since we are forced to leave the ring and our passion. And while we might not be shackled and prisoners to a conquering army we are still slaves to our passions. But like you said G-Dawg we can try to leave wrestling and the ones with passion might succeed at it for a few years but in the end only death can keep them out of the business.
Now that I have spoken at length at probably nothing more than a heartfelt agreement to your points G-Dawg I am wishing you good luck this week on Side Effect."
As he say that Thor leans back in his seat and smiles as the scene fades away to nothing.
